Our correspondent learnt that the alleged killer, policeman was arrested and detained as part of investigation into the incident which has generated national condemnation.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Doris England, was not available for comments on Monday as she did not respond to several calls to her phone. A text message to her mobile was also not acknowledged.
The House of Representatives member representing the AMAC/Bwari constituency of the FCT, Zephaniah Jisalo confirmed that the police had arrested the errant policeman.
Jisalo, who spoke at the palace of the Sapeyi of Garki, Alhaji Usman Nga Kupi, said the police told him that the policeman was being detained by the CID in connection with Lucy's death.
The lawmaker said he would raise the killing of Lucy at the chambers of the House of Representatives if he was not satisfied with the way the matter was handled by the police.
"I have been reliably informed that the policeman that shot the girl has been detained. I am following the case closely but if I am not satisfied by the way it is handled, I will raise a motion on it in the chambers," Jisalo stated.
Meanwhile, there were indications on Monday that the planned demolition which led to the ugly incident was not authorised by the Development Control Department of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council which oversees building matters in the FCT.
The AMMC Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ughamadu, told our correspondent that the council had no hand in the incident, adding that a plan to demolish illegal structure on plot 899 at Apo, Abuja, was suspended when it was learnt that there was tension in the area.
He said, "AMMC had planned to demolish illegal structures built by informal businessmen on plot 889 at Apo area ofAbuja lastFriday, but the exercise was suspended when we heard that there was tension in the area. The owner of the plot however went and secured the services of policemen who went to the plot leading to the unfortunate killing of a girl.
"We have no hand in the incident because our officials and the policemen attached to the demolition team did not visit the demolition site upon learning that there was tension in the area. The policemen attached to our demolition team do not use live ammunition during demolition exercise; we are always careful to avoid violence or casualties during demolition exercise."
Asked if it was the practice of AMMC to carry out demolitions at the instigation of private developers, Ughamadu explained that the council did not pander to developers' whims.
